Pride In Central Park

Pride In Central Park

Although June and October may be recognized as Pride Month and LGBTQ+ History Month respectively, in reality, Gay Pride in NYC is never over!

Central Park may not be the first place that comes to mind when most people think of Pride in NYC. However, not only did the park play a significant role in the evolution of LGBTQ culture, but the park also benefited from the creative talents of queer artists, many of whom are still unknown to us today.

Take a walk through the park to discover LGBTQ contributions and celebrate the Park’s role in the growth of NYC’s gay culture. Some locations you'll see are the Sheep Meadow, Bethesda Terrace, the Ramble, Great Lawn. You’ll also learn about two amazing gay men who helped save Central Park when it was at its lowest point.

Tour duration: 2 hours. Tour starts at Tavern On The Green (West 67th Street) and ends on Central Park West and West 72nd Street.

The two hours my friends and I spent in Beth's company were intriguing, informative, and utterly delightful. If this review is brief it is simply to not give away any of the insights of information Beth shared, but I came away from the event with a much richer and deeper appreciation of one the the diamonds in the New York City diadem, and if the tour had run for three hours, or even four, I would have happily stayed for every minute. I have been on other NYC tours, as well as tours in other cities, but this was simply the best tour in which I have had the privilege of participating! A joy!

What a pleasure to spend an hour or two in beautiful, amazing Central Park, in which everything in it, someone made a conscious decision to put there. Beth has the details on all of those decisions (which were rarely easy, or easily carried out; there was almost always opposition), and on anything else that happens to come up in passing. Highly recommended!
